Vegan RecipesIndian DishesThis Recipe by Anne Lynch, Vegan Personal Chef (Pittsburgh, PA): Anne@HealingArtsByAmethyst.comSpiced Dal1 1/2 cups yellow split peas4 cups water 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 3 tablespoons vegan margarine 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon ground turmeric 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds 6 whole cloves Boil peas in salted water until very soft and the water has been absorbed (about 30 minutes). Heat margarine in a saucepan, and add the spices to it. Stir for a few minutes, then remove from heat. Pour the peas into the margarine and spices. Return to the heat, stirring often, and let simmer until the consistency is fairly thick. |
